Frequently asked questions
Written for humans — and for search/AI tools that need accurate NJ UST operator answers.
What is UST NJ?
UST NJ is a Class A/B operator service for New Jersey underground storage tanks. We put a licensed Class A/B on your facility paperwork and manage a simple UST program: audit, designation, Class C training, calendar, records, and problem help when needed.
Who needs Class A and Class B operators in New Jersey?
If you have regulated underground storage tanks under NJDEP’s UST rules, you must designate Class A, Class B, and Class C operators. This includes many retail fuel sites and other regulated UST systems.
Can UST NJ be my Class A/B operator?
Yes. NJ allows contractors to be designated. You still keep owner/operator liability. UST NJ becomes the trained A/B on file.
How do you become Class A/B in NJ?
Complete the required New Jersey Class A/B training and pass the ICC exam. That’s why many owners hire UST NJ instead of burning weeks on study — especially multi-site operators.
What is Class C and do I need it?
Class C is the on-site first responder role (often clerks). They need training before they take that responsibility. Included with UST NJ management.
Where do Class A/B names get filed?
On the New Jersey Underground Storage Tank Facility Certification Questionnaire submitted to the Department.
What if DEP finds major problems?
Significant non-compliance can trigger required Class A/B retraining/retesting. That’s Problem Response territory. Call 911 first for emergencies.
Can one person cover multiple stations?
Yes. Same Class A and Class B operators can be designated for multiple facilities. Multi-site packages are a core UST NJ offer.
Do you do tank testing and repairs?
No. Certified UST contractors handle physical testing and repairs. We manage the operator program and help coordinate when something fails.
How much does it cost?
Audits from ~$495/site, management from ~$149/month/site, problem help from ~$175/hour. See pricing.
Does hiring you remove my liability?
No. Owners and operators keep regulatory liability even when a contractor is designated Class A/B. We say that on every proposal.
